Pärnu Film Festival

The Oldest and Most Distinctive Film Festival in the Baltics (Various Locations Around the City)
The Pärnu International Documentary and Science Film Festival—with its impressively long name—is led by perhaps the most punk non-punk in Pärnu: Mark Soosaar. He’s the man known for always wearing his signature bulletproof Kihnu sweater, for creating a rooftop male-only sunbathing “paradise” on his art house, and for fiercely opposing the felling of any trees in the city. The idea for the festival was originally proposed by filmmaker and president Lennart Meri. The Pärnu Film Festival always features strange and unexpected films you’d never find on Netflix or YouTube. Trust us: compared to this, Estonia’s most famous film festival PÖFF feels like mainstream cinema. This is the real deal—a cradle of film culture. The spirit of 1987, the year the festival first took place, still lingers in the air—and that’s exactly what makes it so special. A truly camp experience and a festival that deserves your support visit!
